I started working with clay in 2012, shortly after graduating with a BA in Fine Art from Newcastle University. My primary interest in ceramics has always been in the chemistry of the glazes and the transformative power of the firing process to turn raw materials dug from the ground into objects of function and beauty. Development and experimentation with ceramic materials has been central to my practice from the outset, explored initially through the immediacy of Raku firing, later through stoneware and porcelain tableware.
I participated in the Yorkshire Artspace Starter Studio Programme for Ceramics, now Clay Space, from 2014 - 2016, following which I worked as a Pottery Studio Manager until going freelance in 2023. I now work from Studio 1 at Persistence Works, continuing to produce tableware, exploring slip casting and sculptural techniques, and offering individual and group tuition in Raku firing, throwing, and ceramic materials.
In 2022 I built two gas kilns for Yorkshire Artspace’s Kiln Yard, a facility that allows access to reduction firing through supported or independent firings.
