These shared firings provide an opportunity to fire ware in a reduction atmosphere without the expense of hiring a whole kiln or building your own. The firing will reach Orton Cone 9-10, soaking at a top temperature of 1245C, with moderate reduction commencing at 840C and continuing to temperature.
Drop-off deadline: 5pm, Friday 13th June
Packing date: Monday 16th June 2025
Firing date: Tuesday 17th June 2025
Unpacking date: Thursday 19th June 2025
Unit cost: £60/each (inc. VAT)
Unit volume: 18” x 20” x 11” (width x depth x height)
Multiple shelves can be used within the volume of one unit at no extra cost if needed for flatware or smaller pieces.
To avoid disappointment, please check that pieces brought for firing will fit into the space purchased, as any overspill will require the purchase of an additional unit or may not be fired. Ware brought for firing should be made using a clay body that can withstand Cone 10 temperatures, ie. stoneware or porcelain rated to 1280C by suppliers, and must be biscuit-fired (typically in the region of 1000C) prior to the shared firing. Glazes will ideally be tried and tested to Cone 10, we may ask that glaze recipes are given to check for suitability. If in doubt please check ahead of the session by emailing msc.ceramics@gmail.com.
Participants will be responsible for drop-off and collection of their work at: The Kiln Yard, Persistence Works, 21 Brown Street, S1 2BS, arranged via email with Mike Scown at msc.ceramics@gmail.com. Whilst every effort will be taken to ensure secure storage, handling and firing of work, Mike Scown and Yorkshire Artspace cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage to work between drop-off and collection.
